Annual Eighty Club dinner dance at the Grand on Princes It sure looked like the wild, wild West at the annual Eighty Club dinner dance at the Grand on Princes in Melbourne. Around 300 guests, dressed to impress in wild West garb, gave credence to the theme as they frolicked to some great music at this now popular event. The Eighty Club is a charitable organisation that sponsors poor folk in Sri Lanka especially the Burghers, while also channelling funds to help the less fortunate kids fund their education. It was a night of fun and fabulous food apart from some exceptional music from Col Perkins and Sandie Dodd. Their music was absolutely excellent for the event and the dance floor was packed to capacity during the performance. George De Vos, as usual, did a great job with the decor of the venue giving it a typical Wild West ambience. ...

Manukulasooriya Source:Sundayobserver The Badagamuwa Raja Maha Vihara is a Buddhist temple with an ancient Tempita vihara built during the era of King Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe (1747- 1781 A.D.) of the Kandyan kingdom. The temple lies bordering the Bdagamuwa Forest reserve on the Kurunegala-Dambulla main road. A Tempita vihara is a structure on a wooden platform which rests on a number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and walls are generally made of wattle and daub. The original Tempita Vihara of the temple had been built on eight pillars and is said to have had three stories. The enlarged ground floor had been used as the Pohoya Geya.
