Tourists arrived in Sri Lanka in October from the 1st till the 22nd at 42,026 last year. This year, for October from the 1-22nd, the number is 77,763. Total arrivals this year so far is 1,094,019 compared to the previous year’s figures- 719,978. In 2019, before the COVID-19 endemic, it was reported that 1.9 million visitors arrived in Sri Lanka. It is a 21 per cent decrease from 2018, following the Easter Terror Attacks of April 2019. It’s recorded that the industry earned around $3.5 billion in 2019. RADIO CEYLON – THE KING OF THE AIRWAVES IN SOUTH ASIA FROM THE 1950′ -1970’s Going Down Memory Lane …………. This Group was launched to celebrate the success of Radio Ceylon. Edward Harper who came to Ceylon as Chief Engineer of the Telegraph Office in 1921, was the first person to actively promote broadcasting in Ceylon. In the first ever radio experiments in Colombo, gramophone music was broadcast from a tiny room in the Central Telegraph Office with the aid of a small transmitter built by the Telegraph Department engineers from the radio equipment of a captured German submarine. Nilawarai – ‘Bottomless Well’ in Jaffna Peninsula – By Arundathie Abeysinghe Located in Puttur, approximately 14 kilometers northeast of *Jaffna, Nilawari (also spelt as Nilawarai or Nilavari) is the largest freshwater well in Jaffna Peninsula. Although, the water in the well is brackish, villagers are of the view that it is potable water. Some villages are of the view that the well was created by Prince *Rama. According to villagers in Puttur, the water in the well never dries up even during prolonged periods of drought. The well is approximately 44 meters deep.  The rectangular basin of the well surrounded by rock surface is 13 meters long and 10 meters wide. Caramelized Bread Pudding Delight: A Sweet Symphony of Flavors – By Malsha – eLanka Ingredients: 8 slices of bread 1 cup of milk 2 eggs 100g of sugar 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder (adjust to taste) A handful of raisins 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Method: Begin by preparing a caramel base: Add 2 teaspoons of water to 2 teaspoons of sugar in a pan. Heat until the sugar turns a rich, dark brown, then pour it into a pudding bowl, setting it aside. Trim the edges of the bread, cut it into small pieces, and soak the pieces in milk. In a separate bowl, combine eggs, sugar, raisins, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture over the milk-soaked bread.
