“A COUNTRY ANNIVERSARY” Another year has come and gone Since the day our love was born Though, to me, it seems, not very long ago We’ve had good times, we’ve had bad Sometimes happy, sometimes sad But through every passing day I’ve loved you so There were many bitter tears There were many sudden fears So many times, we thought our love could never be But thru every joy & tear, fate has made it pretty clear All this means, that yoy were only mean’t for me There were times we had to part And it made the teardrops start There were times when we were close, yet far away But these were just a few bad dreams And, right now, to me it seems You are in my heart, and there, you’ll always stay. Lyrics & Music by  Desmond (Kelly from Colombo) Note. Desmond Kelly unrecorded “Songs” always available ...

“THE PEOPLES’ CHOICE” The people have chosen their Government in Australia, for the next three years (hopefully),and they have chosen well. After what seemed like “ages”, in other words, 8 weeks plus a further 8 days, (counting),give or take a few hours, the Liberal/National Party under the leadership of Mr.Malcolm Turnbull has won the 2016 Federal Election from Mr.William Shorten, or simply “Bill, as he is better-known, & his Labour Party. ...

THE MEANING OF “SONG” MILLIONS OF THEM HAVE BEEN WRITTEN, PLAYED BY INSTRUMENTS, OR BEEN SUNG TRILLIONS OF WORDS IN THEIR LYRICS, COMPOSED FOR THE OLD AND THE YOUNG WHAT’S THE TRUE MEANING OF “MUSIC” , HOW COULD IT EVER BE WRONG? , READING MY WORDS WILL NOW TELL YOU, EXACTLY, THE MEANING OF “SONG”. “Music” is the only TRUE International Language in this World of ours. Even the tiniest corner of the Globe will, at some time, during it’s day or night, feature the music, song or dance common to that particular area and although the word “dance” is the odd one out, to do this, one MUST have “music” of some sort, even if it is just the beating of a drum or tom-tom. It is said that music originated in Africa. I beg to differ. Granted, ancient drums in Africa told their people, for miles around, exactly what was happening that ...

What Are Angiotensin Inhibitors And Blockers? by Dr. Harold Gunatillake – Health writer Let’s talk about angiotensin before we discuss its actions in the body. Angiotensin is a hormone secreted by the kidneys, and its main function is to constrict arteries in the body. It has no effect on veins as there are no smooth muscles in them to constrict. When arteries constrict by angiotensin participation the blood pressure will increase. Angiotensin also stimulates the release of another hormone called aldosterone secreted in the adrenal glands sitting on top of the kidneys. To make it a bit more complicated there is another hormone called renin which joins angiotensin and aldosterone to form a system. It is called the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). This combined system regulates the plasma sodium concentration and the arterial blood pressure. Angiotensin is further converted into angiotensin 11 by an enzyme called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) found in lung ...

The St. Peter’s College I knew and loved Realization has gradually dawned on me that I am old, very old. Now, that I am 84 years, keeping young is problematic. It is fortunate that I am still restless, still anxious to learn and a voracious reader. Recollections of my early childhood bring back memories of attending the kindergarten standards one and two at Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya. I remember mother Cazima, an awesome and burly nun, who maintained strict discipline amongst us. It was time to move. The obvious choice was St. Peter’s College Colombo 4. In the late 1930s, St. Peter’s had no kindergarten hence the necessity to attend Holy Family. Boys I remember were Tony Don Michael, Ralph Forbes, Daffy Ingleton, Jeff Gamier and Jimmy Barucha. On the first day, my mother handed me over to the Principal of the Primary School, Father Arthur Fernando. He was a ...
