Black forest Gato – By Malsha – eLanka

Black forest cake

Ingredients:

  • 7 eggs
  • 250g sugar
  • 225g flour
  • 25g cocoa powder
  • Vanilla essence

For Sugar Syrup:

  • 150g sugar
  • 150ml water
  • 1 cinnamon stick

For Filling and Decoration:

  • Whipping cream (Red Man whipping cream recommended)
  • Maraschino cherries, chopped
  • Grated dark chocolate

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a cake tin.
  2. Sift together the flour and cocoa powder, and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until foamy.
  4. Gently fold in the sifted flour and cocoa powder mixture, followed by vanilla essence.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. While the cake is baking, prepare the sugar syrup. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and a cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil, then simmer until the sugar is dissolved and the syrup slightly thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  7. Once the cake is baked and cooled, slice it into three equal layers.
  8. Generously soak each layer with the prepared sugar syrup.
  9. Whip the whipping cream until stiff peaks form.
  10. Spread a layer of whipped cream over one of the soaked cake layers. Sprinkle chopped maraschino cherries over the cream.
  11. Place another soaked cake layer on top and repeat the process with whipped cream and cherries.
  12. Finally, place the third soaked cake layer on top.
  13. Coat the entire cake with whipped cream and decorate with grated dark chocolate as desired.
  14. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.

Enjoy your delicious Black forest Gato
