SLC clarifies on Arjuna’s statement Source:Dailynews The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) at an emergency meeting held yesterday (15) having extensively deliberated on the false, derogatory and distorted statement made by the newly appointed Chairman of the National Sports Council, Arjuna Ranatunga during a recent Media Interview (Derana Big Focus), has decided to take appropriate legal action against him who has spoken with malicious intent, damaging the goodwill and reputation of the SLC and have deliberately made public comments by making false and defamatory accusations against the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket. Johann Peiris to lead Sri-Lanka 60+ plus cricket team at the WC-by M.H.YAKEEM Johann Peiris Source:Dailynews All rounder, Johann Peiris has been selected to lead the Sri-Lankan Cricket team for the first ever 60+ World Cup tournament to be held on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland Australia from September 3 to 16 with the participation of 12 teams. Veterans Cricket Australia will host this inaugural 60+ World Cup according to Rod Rice, the President of Queensland Veterans who is also the tournament liaison official. SL to get access to UK market for over 80% products under new Trading Scheme Source : dailymirror Sri Lanka is included in the UK’s new Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS) which replaces the UK’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP), accessing to the UK market for over 80% of Sri Lankan export products. “The UK’s new Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS) is one of the most generous sets of trading preferences of any country in the world and will benefit Sri Lanka by boosting the economy and supporting jobs,” British High Commissioner Sarah Hulton said. Emergency will not be extended beyond Aug. 18: President – By Yohan Perera Source : dailymirror The emergency regulations which is currently in force in the country, will not be extended after August 18, President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced today.  Speaking during the 35th annual conference of Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA), President Wickremesinghe said emergency will be allowed to lapse. “I will not extend emergency and will let it lapse on August 18,” the President said.  Mr. Wickremesinghe who promised a system change, said both the economy and the political system will be restricted. We intend to turn Parliament into a government and will have oversight committee. There will be a committee on state enterprise reforms, ways and means committee.
