Easter Sunday: A Celebration of Hope and Resurrection-by Kalani-eLanka Easter Sunday is one of the most significant and joyous days in the Christian calendar. Celebrated by millions of Christians around the world, Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, an event that forms the foundation of Christian faith. The Meaning of Easter Easter symbolizes hope, renewal, and victory over sin and death. According to the New Testament of the Bible, Jesus was crucified on Good Friday and buried in a tomb. On the third day—Easter Sunday—He rose from the dead, fulfilling the prophecy of the Messiah and proving His divine nature. When is Easter Celebrated? Easter does not have a fixed date. It is observed on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox, usually falling between March 22 and April 25. In 2025, Easter Sunday will be celebrated on April 20. GOOD FRIDAY – By Charles Schokman SHOUT OF TRIUMPH JESUS DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE. Today’s Scripture: John 19:28-37                                                                                                 It is finished! —John 19:30 Recently I read about Aron Ralston, a hiker who was trapped alone at the bottom of a remote canyon. With scant hope of being found and his strength ebbing away, he had to take drastic measures to save his life. During a moment of excruciating pain, he shouted in agony and in victory, because he had freed himself and now had a chance to escape and live. Those who witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus saw His hours of agony ...

Jesus Christ Superstar. A journey down memory lane ……. Reminiscing the Lankan theatre scene of the 70’s – By Aubrey Joachim It would not come as a surprise that most baby boomer Sri Lankan diaspora in Sydney went along to the Capitol theatre in Sydney in the last few weeks to watch one of the most viewed stage plays of all time – Jesus Christ Superstar. The double album emerged in 1970 with the music score put together by the famed Andrew Lloyd Webber and the lyric writer Tim Rice. It was rock music at its best with the soundtrack being one of the greatest progressive rock albums of all time which achieved platinum status. It portrayed the seven days in the life of Jesus Christ between Palm Sunday and Good Friday as perceived by the main characters during that historic period – Judas, Mary Magdalene, King Herod, Pilate, St. ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – THE CROSS HAS THE FINAL WORD – By Charles Schokman Image Source : facebook THE CROSS HAS THE FINAL WORD Cody Carnes tells of his personal story behind this song. I wrote this song while I was battling with fear, personally, and it dictated the direction of the whole album. The song was written on Good Friday. Although I was dealing with fear, I sat down to read the story of Christ’s crucifixion. As I was reading The Bible, I felt God saying to me “the cross has the final word.” I had this raging sea of emotions inside of me, and that one statement calmed everything in that moment. It reminded me that I don’t have to buy into the lie that evil is rising up. His dying on the cross for our sins has power over death and sin.  I had been thinking about where our ...

An Inspirational Message for the Month of March 2024 Image Source : jenniferhyates Easter baskets, new dresses, pastels, and spring–these are a few of my favourite things. I love to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ each year. It’s a time to rejoice in new life and the empty tomb. But as we sang “At the Cross” this past Sunday, I was struck with the idea that I don’t really think that much about the cross. I have one hanging around my neck, but I seldom consider the cross like the old hymn writers did. Do we really glory in the cross? Do we truly cherish that old rugged cross? Or do we just think about it briefly on Good Friday, and then skip right to the empty tomb? For the early church, the cross was everything. “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel–not with words ...

THE OLD ROMAN SOLDIER – by Des Kelly Erroneously claimed to be “Good-Friday”, when it should actually be the opposite, taking into consideration that this was the “Black-Friday” that a man called Jesus Christ was brutally treated, crowned with thorns, and dragged a heavy wooden cross to a hill on Calvary, only to have his hands and feet nailed to this cross and, if this wasn’t enough, have a spear driven into his side by a Roman Soldier, only to plead to his Father GOD in Heaven, saying “Father, forgive them, for they know not, what they do”. He then died there, on what I would have called “Bad-Friday”, to be carried and entombed by his Mother Mary, to miraculously rise again, on the following “Good-Sunday”, commonly known as “Easter-Sunday”. This is what we Roman Catholics were taught, and, this is what I believe implicitly, in. Contrary to what many ...
