SUNDAY CHOICE – THE CROSS HAS THE FINAL WORD – By Charles Schokman Image Source : facebook THE CROSS HAS THE FINAL WORD Cody Carnes tells of his personal story behind this song. I wrote this song while I was battling with fear, personally, and it dictated the direction of the whole album. The song was written on Good Friday. Although I was dealing with fear, I sat down to read the story of Christ’s crucifixion. As I was reading The Bible, I felt God saying to me “the cross has the final word.” I had this raging sea of emotions inside of me, and that one statement calmed everything in that moment. It reminded me that I don’t have to buy into the lie that evil is rising up. His dying on the cross for our sins has power over death and sin.  I had been thinking about where our ...

An Inspirational Message for the Month of March 2024 Image Source : jenniferhyates Easter baskets, new dresses, pastels, and spring–these are a few of my favourite things. I love to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ each year. It’s a time to rejoice in new life and the empty tomb. But as we sang “At the Cross” this past Sunday, I was struck with the idea that I don’t really think that much about the cross. I have one hanging around my neck, but I seldom consider the cross like the old hymn writers did. Do we really glory in the cross? Do we truly cherish that old rugged cross? Or do we just think about it briefly on Good Friday, and then skip right to the empty tomb? For the early church, the cross was everything. “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel–not with words ...

THE OLD ROMAN SOLDIER – by Des Kelly Erroneously claimed to be “Good-Friday”, when it should actually be the opposite, taking into consideration that this was the “Black-Friday” that a man called Jesus Christ was brutally treated, crowned with thorns, and dragged a heavy wooden cross to a hill on Calvary, only to have his hands and feet nailed to this cross and, if this wasn’t enough, have a spear driven into his side by a Roman Soldier, only to plead to his Father GOD in Heaven, saying “Father, forgive them, for they know not, what they do”. He then died there, on what I would have called “Bad-Friday”, to be carried and entombed by his Mother Mary, to miraculously rise again, on the following “Good-Sunday”, commonly known as “Easter-Sunday”. This is what we Roman Catholics were taught, and, this is what I believe implicitly, in. Contrary to what many ...

Jesus belongs to everyone-by Gwen Heart Source:Dailynews What does Good Friday mean to us Christians? It is not only a day of repentance, but of accepting Jesus as our Saviour as we become the Church, the world and are His tenants. One of the most fundamental spiritual acceptance we owe Him are tenants, entrusted with responsibility and dedication the belief that our live are not about us but about our faith in Him. Jesus Christ is God’s judgment. We are all are under his judgment. How many times have I said it and how many times have I meant it? I get that piercing rip through my heart when I look into thy loving, compassionate eyes, but what have I done for thee. Nothing at all. But Jesus you know I love you with my heart and soul. Everything climaxes ultimately to Good Friday that finally you redeemed us all. ...

“HAVE A GOOD HOLIDAY” – By Des Kelly Seems very strange that even as I was thinking about all the public holidays now enjoyed in Australia, Christmas day, Boxing day, New Year’s day, May-day, , the Queen’s birthday, Good Friday, Easter day, Melbourne- Cup day, plus one or three more special days, where everyone in this great big Land celebrates them in their own inimitable fashion.       Then, out of nowhere, I get this copy of the Sri Lankan Government’s Gazette, declaring their Public and Bank Holidays for 2020, showing the full list, which gets me thinking of yet another “title” for our little homeland in the Indian Ocean. Lanka has been proudly called many things, the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Tear-drop of India, among others, so I have now decided to call her “Holiday-Island”. Here folks, is the reason why.    Desmond Kelly.  (Editor-in-Chief)—eLanka.. Govt issues gazette declaring ...

“GOOD FRIDAY” by Des Kelly I write this in dedication to Jesus of Nazareth, the son of a Carpenter, Joseph, & a Mother, Mary, Immaculate, also known to all Christians as the “Virgin Mary”, around 2000 years ago. Jesus, a Nazarine, was, is, and always will be known as the Son of God, except, of course, to the atheist who does not believe in any God, but this writer, unworthy, though I am, have always believed that, in two simple words, “God Is”. I am a Roman Catholic, only by name, perhaps, but still, when I have needed HIS help, HE has never disappointed me, because I talk with HIM, and beg  God to, not only help me, but others who also need this Divine God Almighty to assist them as they go through life. Anyway, this is my personal dedication to Jesus, the Man, who lived for just 33 ...
