CCPI Headline inflation, as measured by the year-on-year (Y-o-Y) change in the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI, 2021=100) increased to It said the Food inflation (Y-o-Y) increased to 3.3% in January 2024 from 0.3% in December 2023, while the Non-Food inflation (Y-o-Y) increased to 7.9% in January 2024 from 5.8% in December 2023. CBSL also said the monthly change of CCPI recorded 2.87% in January 2024 due to the price increases of 1.21% observed in the items of Food category and 1.66% observed in the items of Non-Food category. The core inflation (Y-o-Y), which reflects the underlying inflation in the economy, increased to 2.2% in January 2024 from 0.6% in December 2023. Govt. to import cattle from India, Pakistan- By Ifham Nizam Source:Island Plans were underway to import dairy cows from India and Pakistan shortly, a senior officer of the Ministry of Agriculture said. Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera had held discussions with the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Gopal Bhagle, on several occasions regarding the procurement of dairy cows from India, the official said. Amaraweera said that getting cows from India and Pakistan were cheaper and the animals always adapted to Sri Lanka’s climatic conditions better than those from Australia and New Zealand. Previous attempts to import animals from Australia and New Zealand had proven disastrous, the Minister said. Director General of SLTDA Dhammika Wijesinghe said this situation has arisen in view of the crisis atmosphere in the country. According to SLTDA, 106,500 tourists arrived in the island in March 2022 and the tourist arrivals have decreased to 32,856 in the month of June Tourism Development Authority Director General Dhammika Wijesinghe said. July and August are the two months when most tourists visit the island. During those two months, the tourists mostly visit the eastern part of the country.
