Former Sri Lanka seamer Graeme Labrooy is expected to replace Sanath Jayasuriya as Chairman of Cricket selectors, mirrorcricket learns.  Sri Lanka Cricket is likely to make the appointment later this week, in time to finalize the Sri Lanka squad for forthcoming series against Pakistan. Sri Lanka will play two Tests, five ODIs, and three T20 internationals during their tour to UAE. ‘We will make the appointment soon, probably by Saturday,” said a highly placed Sri Lanka Cricket source. His appointment comes after Jayasuriya-led committee resigned at the end of the disastrous home series against India where Sri Lanka lost all-nine matches in the series (3 Tests, 5 ODIs and a T20I).  Labrooy who is currently employed as an ICC match referee is expected to relieve his duties with the global body to take up the new appointment. He represented Sri Lanka in 9 Tests and 44 ODIs during 1986-1992. Though ...

I plagiarised this title from myself, bear with me for the repetition. It fits so well that I did not bother to create a new heading to tell a repetitive story. I wrote the original after the elections in 2010 when UPFA had an astounding victory. That was when I published the original ‘Bowling without Umpires’. The gist of the story was that the ordinary Sri Lankans were getting hammered left right and centre by politicians in power who wrote the rules at  their own whims and fancies. That was then, this is now and I did make some changes here and there to fit the current tableau. All that is political, the same Diyawanna-Oya meander’s in the vicinity of the same parliament and the same parliament stands majestically  menacing, sheltering those we elected to rule  us and a fair number of them to ruin us. Reminds me of the ...

Chairman Colombo Rubber Traders Association, ( CRTA) Sunil Poholiyadde said recently at the Annual General Meeting (AGM ) of the CRTA that the current performance of the industry was not at optimum. Comparing crop performances in 2015 and 2016 he reported a 79 million kilo drop in production in 2016. Additionally, he also expressed surprise at a very nearly 50 percent drop in production of natural rubber . He confirmed that 70 percent rubber originated from rubber small holders, who did not work their lands because of poor prices last year, seriously affecting production. Prices dropped to Rs. 200. per kilo which rendered such lands liabilities than assets. Additionally, small holders are now felling their rubber trees for timber for the lucrative furniture market. Consequences of such action will gravely affect production. Long term effects would be detrimental to the rubber industry. Poholiadda also said about 2500 hectares have been ...
