Norah Roberts: A Letter from Her Past, April 1995 – By Michael Roberts Source : thuppahis My sister Norah Roberts, I now realise, was a remarkable woman. Further elaborations along these lines will follow in a second “Memoriam.” The present display is via a Letter she sent to Fr Corera of the Vanareeth House for Elders run by the Sisters of Charity in Galle on the 15th April 1995 …. a copy of which has been preserved by Moninna Goonewardena of 15 Parawa Street, Fort, Galle.[1] The copy of the Letter below will be followed by a commentary on several facets touched on within the letter; while my Ode in Praise in a subsequent essay will present details on Norah Roberts and her difficult circumstances of total deafness from her 32/33rd years on earth. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES THAT PETERITES STARTED BEFORE THE JOSEPHIANS – Algi Wijewickrema St. Peter’s College was launched as St. Joseph’s College, Colombo South by Rev. Fr. Maurice Le Goc, the visionary Rector of St. Joseph’s College in 1922 and obviously sports and many other extracurricular activities were introduced by St. Joseph’s from early years. Two examples are Cricketers studying at St. Peter’s playing for St. Joseph’s College up until a separate team represented St. Peter’s in 1927 and Football launched at St. Peter’s in 1925 while it was still St. Joseph’s College Colombo South. Although it is obvious that this should be the natural order of things, as St. Peter’s progressed as a College independent of St. Joseph’s after 1927, there are at least three activities that St. Peter’s College introduced before its brother school. This should not come as a surprise to anyone, least of all to Peterites as their ...

Trevine Rodrigo (eLanka – Melbourne) Catches up with Corrine Almeida It was an absolute pleasure catching up with top notch female vocalist and icon, Corrine Almeida, at our place for an overdue chat and dinner. She’s a breath of fresh air and our quiet meet up was one of reminiscing and health advice from a proven Yoga enthusiast. Corrine is here from Sri Lanka for two gigs, and judging by the sell out crowd at the Springvale Town Hall last week, the next one promises a similar outcome. She is a gifted entertainer. Corrine has been a huge draw in Australia and around the globe much like legendary Desmond De Silva, and her interaction with her fans has little parallel. She spoke with humility about how glad she was to be blessed with a faithful following, many who never fail to show up wherever she performs. She points out that ...
