Unfortunately, the opposition parties did not assist the Ranil Wickremasinghe government. The President endeavoured to clear the fuel station queues and people lining up at gas stations for petrol & kerosine. However, credit should go to President Ranil Wickremasinghe for evading a complete collapse of the economy. IMF loan is not a happy occasion to celebrate with a “kiri bath” and crackers. ANZAC and the Sri Lankan Warriors This year too the members of Sri Lanka Ex Servicemen’s Association in Qld marched alongside the service personnel and members of Returned Servicemen’s League (RSL) at ANZAC Parade in Kenmore on 25 April 2023. The traditional Shell Green 2020 T20 cricket match between the Brisbane Lord Mayor’s XI and the Army Team will follow at the Brookfield Showgrounds, Brookfield. At around 10:30 the umpires will inspect the pitch and ask the team Captains out to the middle for the traditional coin toss done with a Penny ‘two up’ style. 2 x armoured vehicles from the 2/14th Light Horse Regiment the Queensland Mounted Infantry will then traverse onto the field and hold ground at either end of the pitch. 108th anniversary of ANZAC Day held in Colombo Source : dailymirror The High Commission of New Zealand and the High Commission of Australia celebrated the 108th anniversary of ANZAC Day at a Dawn Service amidst respected formalities today (25 April 2023) at Commonwealth War Graves Section, Jawatta Cemetery, Colombo. My memories of the BURGHER RECREATION CLUB – The Number 1 Hockey Club from 1932 to Date – By Dennis de Rosayro Perhaps inspired by the ancient Olympic Games in Greece, the 1st Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896. The very same year on 26th December 1896 in tiny Ceylon, the Bambalapitiya Hockey & Football Club was founded by the Burgher community from Bambalapitiya, Colombo South, at a meeting held at the residence of Mr. F.J. Foenander, who was elected as Patron.  Mr. A.W. Raffel and Mr. O.H. Poppenbeck were elected as President and Hony Secretary, respectively.  On 31st May 1915, the Club changed its name to Burgher Recreation Club and its colours changed from “Black-red-Gold” to “Black-Red-Champagne”.   Thus, the B.R.C. completed 125 years on 26 December 2021.
