India’s castle blown down by a mighty England huff and puff. – BY TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE.     England huffed and puffed and blew India’s house down, much to the dismay of the ICC, the rest of all experts, and all expectations.  So, Asia in the form of Pakistan, take on England, and I would be a optimist to even venture on predicting a winner with two teams not really a popular choice who have made this World Cup final, and are capable of winning against anyone on their day.  Skipper Jos Buttler and Alex Hales smashed unbeaten 80 and 86 in whirlwind fashion to lead England on a romp to the final chasing 170. They achieved a par total with four overs to spare after an incredible run chase.  India provided the early fireworks led by prolific batters Virat Kohli 50 0ff40 balls, and Hardik Pandiya whose brutal ...

WHY NOT CLIMATE MEET IN  EGYPT  DISCUSS  POPULATION CONTROL? – By N.S.Venkataraman The Glasgow Climate Meet   ( COP 26 ) took place in 2021  with much fanfare  with  leaders of almost all countries pledging  to reduce and eliminate global emission as early as possible , to prevent global warming and  prevent climate crisis.  The Glasgow Meet ended with high hope  that  world climate crisis would be overcome sooner or later and hopefully sooner than later. Now, Egypt Climate Meet ( COP 27) is in progress with the concerns about global climate being not less  than what was there in Glasgow Climate Meet.  The ground reality is that practically nothing has been done in significant way to improve the global climate scenario  in the last one year and on the other hand, it has only further deteriorated  due to various man made reasons and conflicts The world is already feeling the ...

Unpredictable Pakistan upset New Zealand applecart. BY TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE Pakistan lived upto their tag of unpredictability and confounded my predictions of a New Zealand T20 World Cup win with a fantastic allround display to forge their way into their first final in this format.  So dominant were the Pakistan attack spearheaded by  a fired up Shaheen Shah Afridi, backed by disciplined  fielding,  against a New Zealand batting line-up that looked devastating at the outset, then fell apart, after England earlier unravelled them. The Kiwis showed they had  no sign of a recovery plan, to be knocked out in total submission.  It followed the pattern of progress which suggested a New Zealand and possibly a India or England final. But now my second option appears inevitable.  India and Pakistan in a final of the T20 World Cup will rake in substantial financial gain through a sellout crowd at the ...

Govt.’s economic narrative gains business support but Little else-by Jehan Perera Protesters clashing with the police during a march held by political parties, trade unions and civil society organisations, recently, against the government. Pic by Thushara Atapattu. Source:Island The mass protest in Colombo by a large collective of trade unions, student movements, opposition political parties and social activists failed to make an impact. The government had made its own preparations which were more cohesive than those of the protesting groups. They were met with a mobilization of police forces who blocked their way. The police declared early that the protests on public roads would not be permitted. Following the advent of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the government has been interpreting the law narrowly and ordering the police to restrict the scope of protests to places that do not block the roads, inconvenience the general public and will be little noticed. The ...

“LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT” – by Des Kelly   Certainly worth a repeat, especially for those who have not seen the initial ‘post’. Thank you, Keith Bennett for this most interesting story on LIFE.   Desmond Kelly (Mr.Music) (Editor-in-Chief)   e’Lanka. “SIX LITTLE stories” well worth the 30 seconds to read!   {1} Once all villagers decided to pray for rain.   On the day of prayer all the people gathered,   but only one boy came with an umbrella. That’s FAITH. {2}  When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them.  That’s TRUST.  {3}  Every night we go to bed   without any assurance of being alive the next morning,   but still we set the alarms to wake up.  That’s HOPE {4}  We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future.  That’s CONFIDENCE  {5}  We see ...
