DESMOND KELLY

“GOD MADE SPINOZA TOO” – By Des Kelly  The Author of this . piece of.,~ writing is unfortunately unknown, yet it was sent in to me by my good friend, Artist/Cartoonist Max. Gerreyn and certainly merits inclusion on  e’Lanka,  so let us get it on, forthwith. The title (above) comes from me. I was born a Roman Catholic, have lived my life so far, as one, and will die, a Roman Catholic. I am not, in any sense of the word (or phrase), a “Church pillar”, however I DO BELIEVE IN GOD. There is only the ONE GOD, and it is quite obvious now, that this ALMIGHTY is fed-up with the World that HE created just recently, in the context of time. When God made us, HE created each & everyone with a brain. He then expected us to use this brain to live our lives as we should, in ...

“OLD FRIENDS” – By Des Kelly      Sent to me by my “Good Friends” Ruki & Dayal Cooray, another beautifully written piece that tells us the story of life. Unfortunately, the Author of this great “post” is unknown, but I did read it, and enjoyed it immensely, deciding to share it with many thousands of e’Lanka. I then decided to post an unforgettable song by the late, great Merle Haggard, as a fitting end to this meaningful story.           Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in- Chief)  e’Lanka.  ...

“WONDERS OF NATURE” – BY Des Kelly Sent in to me, for introduction to e’Lanka, although he figures that this has been around before, these wonders are well worth watching again.  Thank you, very much, Maxie Gerreyn. I feel certain that all our e’Lanka members and readers will love this post that quite adequately features         THE WONDERS OF NATURE”.         Desmond Kelly.  (Editor-in-Chief) e’Lanka.   Download the PDF file .   ...

“DEFINITELY DIFFERENT DEFINITIONS” – By Des Kelly   Sent in specifically for e’Lanka, by Keith Bennett, for which we thank him, are the above “D”s, all three of them. Just shows what can be done with this superb language (ENGLISH), that is now becoming even more important in both Sri Lanka and Australia, where there are Drastic multitudes of Damned languages to cope with, (believe me),my alias is Desperate Des, this Daft, Deadly, Definitely, Different,   ...

Ten guitars! – By Des Kelly   This was quite possibly the very first song that I heard him sing, and I liked what I heard, very much. Arnold George Dorsey, who later took the unusual name of Englebert Humperdinck, also took the World by storm, as he continued to entertain millions of people, everywhere he went. Somehow, he was different in the way he faced the World as an Entertainer. There always seemed to be a rapport between him and his fans, that was genuine. He loved them and they loved him, and still do. He wasn’t much married, like so many other “Stars”, having had just his “one & only” Patricia Healey who was born in 1936, married Englebert in 1964, contracted Alzheimer’s disease and sadly died of Covid 19 related complications in 2021, aged eighty five. Patricia and Englebert had 4 children, Bradley, Jason, Scott & Louise ...

“AGE, IS SIMPLY A NUMBER” – By Des Kelly   Who Tim is, no-one knows. Much less, his “Tantalising Ticklers”. However, he has introduced this supposed tickler quite adequately, even though it is not really funny because, as I have titled this piece (see above), I quickly follow this up, telling all my family and friends “stay young, try not to get old”, and mean what I say.           Anyway, now let us get onto Tim and his introduction to this very informative and interesting video. Amazing, what technology let’s us do. ...

“MEMORIES-PLUS” – By Des Kelly     Not everyone has the “gift” of remembering the good old days, as we call them, but whoever wrote this little story remembers plenty. It is a shame though, that he/she forgot to take the credit for writing such a memorable little true story, about life in general, in Ceylon(I think), so many years before the Island’s name was changed to Sri Lanka. I base this possibility on the fact that I remember most of what was written, and while full credit is given to the unknown author of this very interesting haven of memories, I take pleasure in reposting it for all e’Lanka members.  I must also thank my good friend, Dayal Cooray, for posting it, in the first place. ...

“FRIENDS FOREVER” – by Des Kelly A most beautiful story, proving that animals are akin to humans, in so many ways. If a friendship happens between them, it doesn’t really matter how different their individual lifestyles are, the bond that is thereby created between them has to be seen, to be believed. Thank you, Charles Schokman, for this wonderful video which will possibly bring tears to the eyes of animal-lovers around the World, via e’Lanka, in addition, of course. Folks, please read, watch, and enjoy these “Friends Forever”.           Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief) e’Lanka FRIENDSHIP After losing his parents, this 3 year old orangutan was so depressed he wouldn’t eat and didn’t respond to any medical treatments. The veterinarians thought he would surely die from sadness. The zoo keepers found an old sick dog on the grounds in ...

“THE MAGIC OF MEDJUGORJE” – by Des Kelly Something entirely different, but magical, at the same time. Mary, the Virginal Mother of Jesus Christ, or God in the 2nd part, of the Holy Trinity of the Roman Catholic Religion, has always been one of the closest liaisons between us and Jesus, the Son of God, who is duly worshipped by billions of Catholics around the World. The Virgin Mary has been performing miracles  for as long as I can remember, and I have just celebrated my 85th birthday.  People who read this magnificent post must remember that it was Mary who requested her Son Jesus to change some water into wine, at a function that ran short of the latter, and HE did because SHE was his Mother, of course.  People must also remember that true Catholics only worship ONE GOD. We REVERE the Virgin Mary and other Saints, and ...

“A FAMOUS PETERITE” – by Des Kelly  He goes into the record books of my late Alma-Mater, St.Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya, Colombo, as the first Inspector General of Police who studied there. This most interesting brief-biog., was sent out to me by our good friend Keith Bennett, and I am proud to say that Chandra Fernando’s story clearly shows the calibre of some exceptional students who, in later life, kept the gold, silver, and blue flag flying high, this time as an I.G.P. (top rung of the Police ladder). We, at e’Lanka  do congratulate him, and voice our thanks to Keith Bennett, in the process.   Desmond Kelly.
