Stupas of Delft Island – evidence of earliest human habitation – By Arundathie Abeysinghe Known as “Neduntivu” or “Nedunthivu” by residents in Jaffna, Delft Island is commonly referred as “Delft Island”, inherited from Dutch Colonials during their rule in Jaffna. Although, Delft Island is a vast island, it is mostly uninhabited. At the northwestern coast of Delft Island, there are ruins of three ancient Buddhist stupas (dagobas) known as “Cholan ruins.” Two stupas are of medium or small size, yet the largest stupa has a circumference of 32 meters. Their ground walls are restored by the Department of Archaeology. Buddhist ruins on the Island were first reported in 1832, by a person utilizing the pseudonym “Pen” (PENN) to “Colombo Journal” newspaper. Ceylon Theatres and British Council join hands to screen the UK’s National Theatre Live here Source : island Ceylon Theatres has joined the British Council to bring the UK’s National Theatre Live (NT Live) to Sri Lankan audiences. The British Council has declared its support to the NT Live screenings, in 2023/24, as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of UK-Sri Lanka diplomatic ties. Ceylon Theatres said that this will allow a wider audience to enjoy and experience world class UK Arts. National Theatre Live is an initiative operated by the Royal National Theatre in London. It broadcasts live, by satellite, performances of their productions to cinemas and arts centres around the world. Ceylon Theatres operates the Regal cinemas and the Majestic cinema in Sri Lanka, which collectively has 18 screens across the country in seven locations. Colombo Medical School Alumni Association celebrates 12th anniversary Source:Dailymirror Colombo Medical School Alumni Association (CoMSAA) has celebrated its 12th anniversary with a Reunion recently at the Hotel Jie Jie, Panadura.   The Reunion of the CoMSAA was held after a lapse of three years due to the pandemic.  Nearly a hundred alumni, including several from overseas, attended the weekend Reunion.  A musical evening with song and dance and a gala dinner was followed the next day with an academic session.
