DESMOND KELLY

A special love…By Des Kelly      “A picture’s worth a thousand words,       an English phrase of old,       this one’s about a “special love”       that’s worth much more than gold.       Believe me, friends, I’ve had this love,       so very many times,       they cannot talk, but show their love,       in perfect nursery rhyme.                        “WE LOVE YOU, FOLKS,                         PLEASE TAKE CARE OF US,                      AND, WE’LL BE YOUR’S FOR LIFE,                    TO COMFORT, AND TO SOLACE YOU,                       THRU TROUBLES & THRU ...

“SO, WHAT’S NEW”?!! – By Des Kelly   They have already taken over Hambanthota permanently. They did not need Chang’e 4 or any such thing, to do this,  just a bad debt, on the part of Sri Lanka. They have “taken-over” the Seas around them & King Neptune himself couldn’t do anything about it, he was too busy fishing. They are in the process of procuring 99 year leases everywhere you look, Australia, included. They are growing in population faster than any other Country on this Planet, India, included. Now, they are probing the “dark side” of the Moon. No-one can actually see them, up there, but, they can see all of us. Very clever, these Chinese.   Now that the year 2019 is upon us, China has really popped-up with “a beauty”!, as the say in Australia. While America is trying to build a great wall around Mexico, and has been temporarily ...

RUMOUR-MONGERS” BEWARE! – By Des Kelly      The above is warning is directed to “whom it may concern”. Lovely Olivia Newton John IS battling cancer, we know this, for a fact. These “R.Ms” (I have decided to abbreviate their full title because that is all they deserve),are trying to “kill-off” this beautiful fighting lady before her time, and it angers me so much, I wish to give the R.Ms a bit of advice. “Whoever you are, you numbskulls, go get some better management, and STOP handling yourselves.      Olivia Newton John’s first brush with breast cancer occurred in 1992. She fought this for 21 years, folks (she is a fighter and certainly not one to give-up easily). She did have a partial mastectomy, all the necessary chemo-therapy that was required and carried on with her life, helping not only herself, but thousands of others, battling the big “C”. ...

“LIFE AIN’T EASY” – By Des Kelly   They called him Dr.Hook, and his “Medicine Show”, after Ray Sawyer lost one eye in an automobile accident in 1967. Here was another young American Singer who was immensely popular during the 1970’s. Ray, “eye-patch” Sawyer was born on the 1st of February, 1937, joined the Alabama Group “The Medicine Show”, in 1969, two years after the accident that cost him his right eye, as a founder member of the Group, whose lead singer was Dennis Locorriere, but it was the “pirate-patch” that he wore permanantly, that not only made him stand out, but caused the Medicine Show to be renamed “Dr.Hook & the Medicine Show. Ray Sawyer, however, was also an entertainer that “sang a pretty good song” & the group were absolutely thrilled when they DID finally get their picture on the cover of a “Rolling-Stone” magazine, actually recording a ...

THE BOXIN BLUES – By Des Kelly photo source = Talk Spot He may “weather the storm”, but Japanese kick-boxer Tenshin  Nasukawa DID feel the “tension” of a 1st round knockout by Floyd Mayweather, in their exhibition bout, this past New Years Eve (2018), earning himself a cool 9 million, give or take a dollar or two. Floyd is a boxer, now retired, but given the nickname “Money” Mayweather, who can blame him or his manager, CEO Leonard Ellerbe for now wanting to take on another possible exhibition fight with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the near future (hopefully).      Boxing fans (hopefully), also, expect to see just a leeetle more actual boxing for the price of the tickets they pay to see these “bouts” (this one lasted “about’ 2 minutes, & 19 seconds, to be exact), but, at least, they got to see this 20 year old kick-boxer floored ...

“MAGICAL CHINA” – By Des Kelly  A Country, vast in man-power, with superior technology that is still little-known to other Countries around this big “blue ball” called Earth, once the Capital of all Communist Countries, now also called “Free China”, over-taking, and taking-over (in one breath), parts & parcels of other Countries, like the City of Hambanthota (in Sri Lanka), in addition to gaining 99 year leases & plenty of them, elsewhere, China, where inscruitability seems just another asset, is nonetheless “Magical China” as I would call it, and I am sure that all our readers of eLanka will agree with me, as you scan the beautiful images below.  Desmond Kelly (Editor-in-Chief) – eLanka. A land of epic contrasts: Stunning images show the breathtakingly diverse scenery of China, from towering cities to magical mountains ·         It’s a country with neck-straining skyscrapers, cormorant fishermen and terrifying glass walkways ·         Hong Kong skyline is ...

“STATEMENT OF THE OBVIOUS” – By Des Kelly Bob Hawke, a former Prime Minister of Australia, is now very frail and on his “last legs”, according to various professional journalists, over here in Oz. He, Bob himself, has spoken about his terrible health at the moment, and does not think that he will be around to see “Labour” win the next election in 2019. What a lot of bulldust!.   Of course, he is frail. How many men at age 89 can jump around doing the samba ?. What is the friggin use of stating the bloody obvious ?. At least, he has Blanche looking after him, when at home, and the best “medicine-men” at his beck and call, when in hospital. Deservedly so, I would hasten to add, because THIS ex-Prime Minister was a very different “kettle of fish” while serving his people.  This could be termed a “preulogy” I ...

“INDIA WINS” (AGAIN) – by Des Kelly  “I told you so”, is a phrase that is seldom used, but I do recall another article, recently written by me, on many other aspects of “Mother India”, as many Sri Lankans, especially those living in the Northern area of beautiful Sri Lanka, call her. India, a huge Country, indeed, seems to be the mother of the tiny dot in the Indian Ocean, that was our homeland. Still, before coming to the major part of my previous “story”, I did touch upon the Indian Cricket team, right now, in Australia for a series of test-matches, predicting that these “visitors” would win the 1st test, lose the 2nd test, win the boxing-day 3rd test, and, actually WIN the overall series for the very first time in history!!, and, although I am no soothsayer, cannot read palms, & don’t muck around with fortune-telling of any ...

ALPHABETICALLY YOURS SERIES 26 (Z) – By Des Kelly      And so, with the end of 2018, comes the ending of this particular “Series” of “Stories In Music”, as I would prefer to call it. Obviously, the “Alphabetically Your’s” Series, simply mean exactly that. I have tried my best to give the members and readers of eLanka brief but interesting “S.I.M” alphabetically indexed, so that hopefully, they could both read and “listen” to Good Music, at the same time.        This is something that I proudly consider another “first”, in what has been a truly hectic life I have led, so far. To “amalgamate” S.I.M. I have been very lucky indeed to hold the position of Editor in our eLanka Website, and be able to “insert” the “Music-Clips” via “You-Tube” simply because NO financial rewards have been gained by either eLanka or myself, and so I have ...

“MUSICAL FAVOURITES” 2019 – By Des Kelly Musical favourites, “Stories in Song”, as I generally call them, will be a new “Series”, bringing the members and readers of eLanka my choice of songs by various artistes, groups, & bands (under this identical introduction), for the specific purpose of “entertaining” all you good people out there in a myriad of ways. You could just sit, listen & watch music that I consider top-class music, and to help you, wherever possible, the original lyrics of the featured item, in case you would like to partake of a bit of “karaoke” and sing along with these great songs, thus taking your mind off the turmoil just outside your front door(for a few minutes, at least).  As the Editor of eLanka, I feel great pride in offering over 20.000 of you, out there, this particular series, simply because good music in all it’s forms ...
