Sri Lanka’s revival – By Dr harold Gunatillake I have just come to visit and live in Sri Lanka, as it is still one of the best countries to live in. There are no petrol queues, and the roads are chock a block with vehicles, drivers creeping through any space on the road without vehicular collisions. In the face of the economic crisis in a country with high inflation, life goes well in the cities, with the usual hustle and buzz. We spent one evening and a night at the Cinnamon Grand hotel in Colombo. I sat in the lobby and watched the number of guests entering and strolling around, some chatting in groups, others walking with families, enjoying a relaxed ambience. From the attires of the men and women, I got the impression they were visitors to the country, come for a holiday. There were many locals, too. It ...

Who gets stomach cancer? – By Dr harold Gunatillake A rise in the incidence of Gastric Cancer was noted in Sri Lanka during 2001-2012, predominately observed in females. An increase in incidence and improved reporting may have contributed to this increase. Future studies analysing tumour characteristics and mortality would enable a better understanding of the burden of GC and potential underlying reasons. This is in accordance with a research paper by Umesh Jayarajah, Ashan Fernando, Dharmabandhu N. Why do doctors do Liver Function Tests?- By Dr harold Gunatillake Liver function tests are blood tests used to help diagnose and monitor liver disease or damage. What is the significance of eGFR? – By Dr harold Gunatillake Website: www.Doctorharold.com Transcript: It stands for-Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) Kidneys are vital for your body. Well-functioning kidneys remove waste and excess fluids from your blood, keep essential minerals in balance, help regulate blood pressure, and produce red blood cells and vitamin D. In other words, your kidneys make sure your body stays healthy and balanced. Now let’s talk about what a glomerulus is. What does Calcium do in the body? – By Harold Gunatillake Too much calcium in your blood can weaken your bones, create kidney stones, and interfere with how your heart and brain work. Hypercalcemia is usually a result of overactive parathyroid glands. These four tiny glands are situated near the thyroid gland in the neck. You probably don’t know that excessive calcium intake may cause heart problems. Its metabolism and conditions that can lead to excess and deficiency are discussed. Also, knowing its place in controlling ...
