SUNDAY CHOICE – WHAT AM I LIVING FOR? – by Charles Schokman “If life ever brings you to a place where it challenges you with the question “What are you living for?” The answer is simple. Maybe you’ve had a bad day or a bad week or thoughts have been ceaselessly circling your mind. Regardless, if 100 things don’t automatically pop into your mind, think of it this way: Who am I living for? It’s impossible to know the significance of the innumerable lives you have touched. But just think of all the people you’ve crossed paths with in this life, you’ll never know just how much you meant to each and every one of them. Your relatives, yes, all of them. Your friends, every one between the best ones and the ones who didn’t last. Your significant other. All your coworkers at all the jobs you’ve worked. The neighbors you’ve lived ...

SOMETHING TO REMINISCE ABOUT ( appeared on the website of Snuistery & Boekery—Author unknown) – sent by Charles Schokman A Little Poem For Seniors, so true it hurts! Another year has passed And we’re all a little older. Last summer felt hotter And winter seems much colder. There was a time not long ago When life was quite a blast. Now I fully understand About ‘Living in the Past’ We used to go to weddings, Football games and lunches.. Now we go to funeral homes And after-funeral brunches. We used to go out dining, And couldn’t get our fill. Now we ask for doggie bags, Come home and take a pill. We used to often travel To places near and far. Now we get sore asses From riding in the car. We used to go to nightclubs And drink a little booze. Now we stay home at night And watch ...

“APPRECIATION OF ARTICLES” – by Des Kelly We, at e’Lanka, now receive very many different articles, whose Authors hope that they will be included in our Newsletters which come out on line, each Wednesday and Sunday respectively. While we do try our utmost, to ‘edit’ every single one of the ‘posts’ sent,  the odd one escapes our hurried scrutiny sometimes, and ends up being published. IF any such article causes concern, we do apologise, but we are human, and in humanity, mistakes do occur at times. On the other hand, there are just a few ‘special’ Contributors whose articles appear regularly on e’Lanka preceded by an introduction by me, your Editor. I find myself thanking these friends such as Keith Bennett, Charles Schokman, Victor Melder, Chris Lawton, and a few others personally, for their valued additions to our great website, which now boasts close to thirty thousand avid readers every ...

GRANDMA’S APRON – by Des Kelly Just wondering how many teenagers of today will even know of, or remember what an apron is ?. Thank you Charles Schokman, for this most interesting piece on a garment worn mostly by the older ladies in their lives. Please read this inspiring little ‘post’ which will also provide some reminiscent memories of many who have already left us. God bless all Grandmas. Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief) e’Lanka.   GRANDMA’S APRON I don’t think our kids know what an apron is. The principle use of Grandma’s apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven. It was wonderful for drying children’s tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – The Parable of the Porcupine – by Charles Schokman “It was the coldest winter ever. Many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together to keep warm. This way they covered and protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions.  After awhile, they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen.  So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth.  Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. They learned to live with the little wounds caused by the close relationship with their companions in order to receive the warmth that came from the others. This way they were able to survive.   Moral of the story: The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but when each individual ...
