Where Does Sri Lankan Food Come From? – By Randika Jayakody & Jerome Perera Source :  Qld Sri Lankan Newsletter – Dæhæna – August 2023 The Sri Lankan diaspora is famous for its food. We often congregate around food and it is an important part of the Sri Lankan identity. So, this month we decided to briefly summarise the origins of some Lankan foods we all cherish. According to academics and chefs, the community whose culinary impact on Sri Lanka was most pronounced were the Portuguese community of Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Bites – Enjoy the bites of Sri Lanka      (Darlinghurst, Sydney) A bite of Sri Lanka Though current Sri Lankan food has parallels to many other cultures, it remains distinctly its own form of cuisine through thousands of years of evolution. From the times of the great Arab Sailors, Greeks, Persians, its own Indigenous people, Sinhalese, Tamil, to the seafaring Malays and the great maritime nations of Portugal, Dutch and British, Lankan cuisine has been enriched by tapestry of flavours that you must try for yourself to believe. Throughout years of colonisation and influence from other countries, Sri Lanka has adapted its food culture into a blend of different crepes, condiments, rice or noodle combinations, cakes, bites, curry concoctions and tasty dishes. Incredible UNSEEN FOOD in Sri Lanka – Indigenous Vedda Tribe! – By Mark Wiens SRI LANKAN FOOD – Sri Lanka is known As the pearl of the Indian Ocean, and that’s because it really is a gem of an island. Today we had the privilege to visit an Indigenous Vedda Sri Lankan Village, where they prepared for us some traditional Sri Lankan food. We first arrived to the lake, where we then had to take a boat across the lake, and then walk for about 30 minutes to get the village. The lush greenery, and an actual beauty was pristine. It started raining, so we just stopped cup of tea. We arrived at the village, and we were greeted with open hands and an extremely warm welcome. The Aunty started cooking, a number of different dishes using millet, and the main dish with fresh deer meat. The food was unlike ...
