“A BEAUTIFUL DAWN”      This is a true but sad “tribute” to a “Special Lady” who came into my life a few years ago. I wrote a song entitled “Another Dawn, another day”, recorded it, and was the luckiest man alive, to have had her “company” for an extremely brief six months or so, before she HAD to go back to Surrey, in Canada to “look after” two very young grand-children whose Mother, her daughter, was very ill and had to “visit” hospital regularly for treatment. We were both “single”, Dawn was the Mother of three daughters and one son and I am the Father of three sons and one daughter.      There have been a few “Stories” written about this “AMAZING WOMAN”. After migrating to Canada at the very beginning of the “Seventies”, Dawn was struck by a car as she “crossed” a main street in Surrey, on a legal “crossing”, ...

Most of the songs I have “written & composed” have been “love-songs”. This stems from the era in which they were written, the 50’s & 60’s. They were the years when “Love was in the air”. They were the songs that were written when, instead of violence, romance was paramount, in every sense of the word. Of course, love-stories did not always end with the “happily ever after” theme. Sometimes, as in my case, I ended up :-                    “BACK, WHERE I STARTED, AGAIN”. I’ve tried counting sheep, but I just can’t sleep I’m back, where I started, again As time passes by, like a faraway sigh The breeze seems to whisper your name My life had been lonely, until I met you Then, nothing else mattered, my dreams had come true Now you’ve said goodbye, & I was to blame So, I’m back, where I started, again. I want ...

We are already through a rather cold winter of 2016 and it will soon be “Spring” again. Hundreds of songs dedicated to this “beautiful season” have been written and enjoyed by music-lovers all over the World. Strauss wrote about it, Chopin wrote about it and being essentially a “love-song” I decided that a Lankan Composer should write one too. Written & dedicated many years ago, to a “few” girl-friends of my own past, here are the lyrics. Hope my elanka readers enjoy it. SWEETER THAN SPRINGTIME. You’re sweeter than Springtime And as lovely as a rose You’re an angel from heaven That’s why I love you, I suppose You do these funny things to me And, as everybody knows You’re sweeter than Springtime And as lovely as a rose. You’re sweeter than Springtime And as.lovely, in the Fall You’re an angel from heaven You’re my Sri Lankan “living doll” You do these ...

“ANAGRAMS” The Queen’s English has many pecularities. Here are a few of them. :- 1. If you are a “PRESBYTERIAN”, naturally, you are supposed to be “BEST IN PRAYER”- So there! 2. If you are an “ASTRONOMER”, of course, you would then be a “MOON-STARER” – What else? ! 3. “DESPERATION” and “A ROPE END’S IT”- How sad! 4. Everyone has two of them. “THE EYES” and they are called so because “THEY SEE”- See? . 5. There once was an American President by the name of “GEORGE BUSH” but as for his Vice President, “HE BUGS GORE” – So there goes Gore.! ...

“A COUNTRY ANNIVERSARY” Another year has come and gone Since the day our love was born Though, to me, it seems, not very long ago We’ve had good times, we’ve had bad Sometimes happy, sometimes sad But through every passing day I’ve loved you so There were many bitter tears There were many sudden fears So many times, we thought our love could never be But thru every joy & tear, fate has made it pretty clear All this means, that yoy were only mean’t for me There were times we had to part And it made the teardrops start There were times when we were close, yet far away But these were just a few bad dreams And, right now, to me it seems You are in my heart, and there, you’ll always stay. Lyrics & Music by  Desmond (Kelly from Colombo) Note. Desmond Kelly unrecorded “Songs” always available ...

“THE PEOPLES’ CHOICE” The people have chosen their Government in Australia, for the next three years (hopefully),and they have chosen well. After what seemed like “ages”, in other words, 8 weeks plus a further 8 days, (counting),give or take a few hours, the Liberal/National Party under the leadership of Mr.Malcolm Turnbull has won the 2016 Federal Election from Mr.William Shorten, or simply “Bill, as he is better-known, & his Labour Party. ...

THE MEANING OF “SONG” MILLIONS OF THEM HAVE BEEN WRITTEN, PLAYED BY INSTRUMENTS, OR BEEN SUNG TRILLIONS OF WORDS IN THEIR LYRICS, COMPOSED FOR THE OLD AND THE YOUNG WHAT’S THE TRUE MEANING OF “MUSIC” , HOW COULD IT EVER BE WRONG? , READING MY WORDS WILL NOW TELL YOU, EXACTLY, THE MEANING OF “SONG”. “Music” is the only TRUE International Language in this World of ours. Even the tiniest corner of the Globe will, at some time, during it’s day or night, feature the music, song or dance common to that particular area and although the word “dance” is the odd one out, to do this, one MUST have “music” of some sort, even if it is just the beating of a drum or tom-tom. It is said that music originated in Africa. I beg to differ. Granted, ancient drums in Africa told their people, for miles around, exactly what was happening that ...

What Are Angiotensin Inhibitors And Blockers? by Dr. Harold Gunatillake – Health writer Let’s talk about angiotensin before we discuss its actions in the body. Angiotensin is a hormone secreted by the kidneys, and its main function is to constrict arteries in the body. It has no effect on veins as there are no smooth muscles in them to constrict. When arteries constrict by angiotensin participation the blood pressure will increase. Angiotensin also stimulates the release of another hormone called aldosterone secreted in the adrenal glands sitting on top of the kidneys. To make it a bit more complicated there is another hormone called renin which joins angiotensin and aldosterone to form a system. It is called the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). This combined system regulates the plasma sodium concentration and the arterial blood pressure. Angiotensin is further converted into angiotensin 11 by an enzyme called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) found in lung ...
