DESMOND KELLY

Secret Of Love – By Des Kelly Another interesting story from Charmaine Gunatillake, especially featured on eLanka, to show us, briefly, as she puts it, the “Secret of Love”, which I would reiterate in yet another simple three word slogan, “Love conquers all”. This is “easier said, than done” folks, because, after all, we are mere human beings, the word “revenge” is common amongs’t us, and put into practice, every time some ill comes our way, from another human source.  Charmaine’s story however shows us that God, the Almighty wants us to change our ways. Because HE is the God of Love, HE wishes to divulge the “Secret of Love” and this little story depicts a few ways of doing exactly that. Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief).  eLanka. Secret Of Love  No matter where you are in life and no matter what troubles you have been through, I encourage you to put ...

“THINGS” – By Des Kelly There are so many “THINGS” one can say about a great song written & recorded by the late great Bobby Darin in 1962. Bobby was born in 1936, plagued with a damaged heart, during his early years, he decided that if he was here for a “short time”, he might as well make it as good a time, as possible. He was quite a handsome guy, married Actress Sandra Dee in 1960, divorced her in 1967, married, for the 2nd time, to Andrea Joy Yeager, & passed on, in 1973, at just 37 years. Yet, when he died, he was a Star performer, Song-writer, Instrumentalist, a Composer who wrote many songs, both for himself & others to record.       Very recently, in Sri Lanka, another famous duo decided to record “Things” with a completely different flavour. Dalrene Suby & her singing partner added some ...

“90 SECONDS OF YOUR TIME” – By Des Kelly Written, in the first place by Cardiologist Andrew, and sent to me by My good friend & Cartoonist Max., this advice may sound unimportant in the context of time, but, believe me, folks, it may be the MOST important one & a half minutes of your life. Please read this carefully and pass it on to family & friends.  Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief)  eLanka This is worth knowing at ANY age One-and-a-half-minute law EXCELLENT INFO My name is Alexander, I am a cardiologist and a paramedic. A very important warning for those who wake up at night to go to the bathroom… You must be careful and use the “One-and-a-Half-minute law” which is scientifically proven. By waking up suddenly for one’s physiological needs normally, we often hear that someone “was well in good health and died suddenly during the night ...

“G.G.,THE COVER KING” – BY Des Kelly It is with a lot of pleasure that I introduce Gehan Gunasekera as “The Cover King” of eLanka. I first heard Gehan on Facebook,.recently. when, out of the blue, amid many & various “Song Clips” being aired every day, on this “platform”, one, that I feel is ideal for music & Musicians, I noticed his name, together with his own “introduction” to “songs” he had “covered”, in his own style of recording, which immediately interested someone who has been recording songs for eons(it seems). I had never seen this particular technique of recording, & as I “clicked” on, to hear the most dulcet tones of Gehan & watching the “backing trax” actually working, computer-style, intrigued me, so I just kept watching & listening to yet another great Sri Lankan talent who, obviously knew what he was doing. Gehan has a rather soft,.yet beautiful ...

“THE GOLDEN YEARS” – By Des Kelly Something quite different, interesting, and, in fact, a refreshing change from all the “monotonous”, thoroughly disgusting stories that are coming to us from the little Island that we all called “home”, not so many years ago, in the context of time. This, comes to me, from Frank Bennett, and I did enjoy reading every word, and, in turn, advise ALL the readers of eLanka to do the same.   “The Golden Years”, to whoever is lucky enough to achieve them in life, should be treated and enjoyed as though they are a “gold-strike” of mammoth proportions. You have lived and learned many things (hopefully), and should thank GOD for giving you the chance to do so.  Folks, please read & enjoy.         Desmond Kelly.       .(Editor-in-Chief) eLanka. =============================== AND THEN IT IS WINTER    You know time has a way ...

“VARIOUS VAGARIES” – By Des Kelly I have indeed seen the name Charmaine Gunatillake come up from time to time with these snippets of interesting information, and this is no exception to the rule. The English Language, being, in my opinion, one of the most important Languages on our Planet, today, is sometimes used however, in a manner that is “strangeness personified”. It was stranger still, in ancient times, but, as a man by the renowned name of Richard Shakespeare said, “This blessed plot, this Earth, this Realm, this England”, I do reckon that he was pretty sure that “old Blighty” was the “cream of the crop”, “Various Vagaries” or not.       To the many thousands of eLanka readers, please do sit back, read, and try to figure out the reason why these quotes and bits of information, these idiosyncrasies were even thought up, & were these vagaries the work ...

“STORIES IN SONG” SERIES 2019 –  “A DAY OF SONG” – By Des Kelly It is with much sadness that I write this tribute to  “A Day Of Song”, Doris Day or Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff, born on the 3rd of April, 1922, and has just passed on to her Music-Hall in the sky, today, the 13th of May, 2019, at the grand old age of 97. Doris had everything going for her, during her lifetime. A true “Star” of stage, screen and television as well, she did it all. A true, natural beauty, her on-screen performances first depicted her as a lovely teenage tomboy. One of her first young teenage lovers (on screen), was Gordon MacRae who predeceased her in 1986, aged just 64. Together they made a few movies that I consider unforgettable, On Moonlight Bay & By the Light of the Silvery moon, were just two that ...

“RIOTS, AGAIN” – By Des Kelly  What is happening in Sri Lanka ?. WHAT IS HAPPENING, AND WHY IS IT ALLOWED TO GO ON ?!!!!. This “Breaking News” has just come in, to me, and to say that I am thoroughly disturbed and Angry about it, would have to be the understatement of the year. My apologies, folks, I cannot write any more, right now, but please read this shocking news, HOPE & PRAY that SOMETHING will be done to bring these RIOTS under control, AGAIN!!!.  Desmond Kelly.       (Editor-in-Chief)–eLanka. Video: Communal Unrest Simmers In North West; Minuwangoda Also Affected Violent mobs have marched through parts of the Kurunegala District for nearly 24 hours attacking mosques, homes and businesses in Muslim settlements in the area with most of the violence taking place while police curfew is in effect, raising fears of another anti-Muslim riot in the area along ...

“OPTIMISM PERSONIFIED” – By Des Kelly  I cannot say I know the Lady, do not even know whether she is Sri Lankan, it’s more likely that she is another tourist who fell in love with Sri Lanka, as so many do, but she certainly writes well, and I have just enjoyed her article which I feel that I should share with all eLanka members and readers everywhere.      This lady is “optimism personified” in my book, and I have to agree with her. Her “Don’t give up on Sri Lanka” tells us that “all is for the best, in the best of possible Worlds”. Voltaire spoke these immortal words many many moons ago, & Ms Hinson echoes them, in her own style. Please read this article folks, and help us to help them.   DON’T GIVE UP ON SRI LANKA  Desmond Kelly.   (Editor-in-Chief) eLanka. Don’t give up on Sri ...
