” MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO” – By Des Kelly   Why do they have to bring any poor monkeys into it ?. Monkeys would never be silly enough to snort, inhale, or ingest in any manner, shape or form, any DUST, whatsoever, that is likely to make them go mad. Some of the rhesus macaque monkeys that I knew lived in Ceylon, were a little bit crazy, I know, but I cannot ever remember them sniffing at any dust around. They were too clever for that.  People who use any sort of “party drugs” are just plain stupid. Prescribed drugs are bad enough, although necessary for patients with specific ailments, but sometimes these medications cause other problems, ones even worse than what the medicines are taken for. Fortunately, we have Doctors & Specialists around who can then recommend other drugs to counteract drugs already being taken, and so it goes, ...

“THE JIGGER’S UP” – By Des Kelly  Animal cruelty, where one LEAST expects it from. One of the best-known racehorse trainers, in Australia,  Darren Weir and his mate & stable foreman Jarrod McLean have been summoned by the Victoria Racing Authorities to explain why a police raid had uncovered 4 jiggers (a small electronic device that emits an electric shock, obviously for the purpose of winning horse races by “jolting” the poor animal into desperately lunging forward, simply to avoid yet another “jig” even as it races it’s heart out to keep it’s ungrateful trainer  “in work”.   You don’t have to be Einstein to figure out that, once again, it is simply a greed for making even more money than these trainers already do, agreed?!!. Everyone gets involved now. Other racehorse trainers are obviously on the bandwagon, stable-hands, male & female, jockeys, owners of the animals themselves, EVERYONE!!, but who ...

Ageless advice – By Des Kelly  Never squat with your spurs on Will Rogers, who died in a 1935 plane crash, was one of the greatest political sages this country has ever known. Some of his sayings: 1. Never slap a man who’s chewing tobacco. 2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day. 3. There are two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither works. 4. Never miss a good chance to shut up. 5. Always drink upstream from the herd. 6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. 7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it and put it back into your pocket. 8. There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves. 9. Good judgement comes ...

“DRAPE” By Des Kelly A rather strange Queensland Newspaper “Headline”. Dr. Samitha Sudusinghe, (Sri Lankan, of course, as the name suggests), has just been in and out of Court, over there, accused of raping a female patient a while ago, in 2015. Thank goodness, for a start, that Queensland “hears” these cases so rapidly. If it happened in Victoria, the case would have come into Court around 2030.  Dr.Sudusinghe had obviously been seeing this patient, who, I presume, is an Indian/Tamil lady, whose own G.P. had gone to India on a holiday. Yes, G.P.s DO earn well enough to enable them to have a holiday sometimes, but, anyway,  Dr. Sudusinghe had been seeing this woman nearly twice a month, for five of them. The complaint ?, abominable, oops, sorry, abdominal pain!!. Hardly worth an “operation” I would say, but then, according to the patient, there was no sexual harassment on ...

“MOVIE MUSICALS” (Missing) – By Des Kelly Whatever happened to them ?, the epitome of “Movie-entertainment”, if I could call it that, is sadly missing from our television screens today, replaced by Violence, Horror, & Fantasy rubbish, to the extreme, Murders, even se sadly occurring in the past in Sri Lanka, given publicity they certainly do not deserve, have now taken the place of the “Movie-Magic” I remember, from the late 40’s & 1950’s. Enough is enough. Television has taken over from the Movies and gives us viewers all the “Carnage” that is going on around the World, at the touch of a remote control button. There are “Stage-Musicals”aplenty around, of course, but, to get a “decent” ticket, costs an indecent amount of money, and, strangely, these costly stage-plays are mostly “copied” from the Movies I am talking about. So, what I paid 50 cents for a “gallery-seat” at the ...

“H.D. in D-MAJOR” – By Des Kelly  High-definition Music in the key of D-major, will obviously SEEM  to be the subject of this particular story of mine, simply because 90% of “my stories” have to do with music. However, this story has a different “slant” to it, folks, so here it is. The above “H.D”. stands for Hector Dias, (a proud Sinhalese Surname), following other famous “Hectors” like Hector Berlioz, a French romantic Composer best known for hi Compositions “Symphonie Fantastique” & “Grande Messe des”, who was born in 1803 & died in 1869, aged 63, and, more recently, Hector Luis Camacho, a professional Boxer, (and Singer)from Puerto Rico, nicknamed “Macho Camacho” who was born in 1962 and died in 2012, God rest their Souls. Hector Dias, however, is still very much alive & kicking, and thank God for that.       I had not heard very much about Hector ...

“STORIES IN SONG” SERIES 2019 – “ONE & ONE & ONE” By Des Kelly A beautiful title, to a beautiful song, sung to perfection by someone who, once you start listening to, you just”hang-on” until the very end, because Gene Watson always says it, or sings it, as it is. This is why GOOD Country music, putting it mildly, will NEVER go away. This is why, as I’ve always said, Music is ALWAYS a story, or “Stories in Song”, no matter whether as an Instrumental, or a vocalised version.  Great Composers such as Strauss or Haydn (my personal favourites), brought instrumental “works” into our World, which did not need any lyrics to enhance them. Everyone with a ” musical ear” simply had to listen to the music, take in the glorious chord-work of these great compositions, to drift away, into a World of ther own, just take Johann Strauss’s Blue Danube Waltz, ...

“STORIES IN SONG” SERIES 2019 – “RAYS OF THE MOON” By Des Kelly   ” Wasted days”, maybe, but “Wasted nights”?, no way. When the listening public around the World, first heard this remarkable man Freddy Fender, again, I have to sadly add the words ” the late, great”, because while it seems that all the past Icons of Country Music in America had already  passed-on, some of them, much too early, this guy had fast made a name for himself, singing, not only in English, but in Spanish (his mother-tongue).   Before the next teardrop falls, Viya con Dios, Secret love, and many many more great Country-style songs, were the gifts of his love to all his thousands of fans around the Planet. Freddy was certainly another Artiste with a truly individualistic sound. He looked quite different as well. A big mop of unruly black hair that somehow looked good on ...

“NEVER MIND THE CHINESE” – By Des Kelly Far too much attention has been paid recently, on what I would term “The Chinese Connection. China, here, China, there, China, China, everywhere. They already “own” parts of “My Lovely Island Home”, they are in the process of leasing large areas of “My Lovely Island-Continent Home for 99 years, folks, that’s almost for life. Mandarin would indeed be a rather difficult language to master, which brings me to yet another Asian Country, Japan. Something that I would generally NOT begin my articles for eLanka, with, is “SEX”. However, this is a true story about  “JAPANESE SEX”.      AJapanese couple start an argument about how to perform highly erotic sex. What they have experienced so far has become positively mundane. HUSBAND :- ” SUKITAKI,  MOJITAKA!!. WIFE REPLIES :- “KOWANINI!, MOWI JANAKPA!” HUSBAND (ANGRILY):- “TOKA A ANJI RODI ROWMI!!” WIFE (ON HER KNEES, LITERALLY ...
