In short, fibre is the skeleton of plants for structural support. Unlike other food components, such as fats, proteins or carbohydrates — which your body breaks down and absorbs in your small gut — your body doesn’t digest fibre. Instead, it passes relatively intact through your stomach, small intestine and colon and out of your body. This is not true. There are no petrol queues, and the roads are chock a block with vehicles, drivers creeping through any space on the road without vehicular collisions. In the face of the economic crisis in a country with high inflation, life goes well in the cities, with the usual hustle and buzz. We spent one evening and a night at the Cinnamon Grand hotel in Colombo.
